Catering Kit
The October weekend at Droitwich where 25 navvies had to share a catering kit meant
for 10, really did convince some of us that the group needs its own gear. So the
two Annes set to and drew up a list of everything needed to provide food for up to
thirty hungry navvies and spent the next two weeks tracking it down. From raiding
Mother's kitchen cupboards to scouring charity shops, it all started to appear.
Greg was despatched to a meeting of the IWA North Lancs. and Cumbria branch committee
with a begging letter asking for help, and came up trumps. A big thank you to all
of the North Lancs. and Cumbria people who provided not only an electric kettle,
umpteen mugs (all with pictures of cows bottoms on them), three chopping boards
but also a cheque with which to buy a four slice toaster. Greg was given the job of
making a box to keep it all in (just a little box - it takes two navvies to lift it
when full) and Anne painted our logo on it with roses (bloody clever if you ask me
- I use a paintbrush personally - oooer! - Ed -> what's Ed doing here - no KESCRG
thankyou). When we'd finished collecting pans, plates, tins and cutlery etc., we'd
almost enough to feed thirty navvies without having to eat in relays. It doesn't
quite all fit into the one box, so Greg's been commissioned to build another one.
Anyway there's still a few things we could do with - for instance a pressure cooker
and we are still short of unbreakable plates and bowls so if any one can help
please let us know.
