This group of volunteers is a sub-section of a national canal restoration group, Waterway Recovery Group Ltd., which in turn is the restoration branch of the Inland Waterways Association.
The volunteers come from all walks of life and have a varied range of skills. Most of them travel hundreds of miles at weekends throughout the year to work on projects, coming from places such as Newcastle, Sheffield, Liverpool and Essex. Each volunteer covers his or her costs to travel to the projects and food for the weekend (levied at £5 per day per person).
